REFLECTION
Experience :
Typography is a relatively new module to me as I never dived that deeply into it before - such as font creation and text formatting. I find that I learnt many new things in each of the project we did and the progress was very fast each week so I am quite glad that I am able to keep up with the pace. Even though the pace was pretty fast, I am able to grasp and apply the concepts learnt from lectures and from the mistakes I did in my work as well.
Typography not only taught me how to view typefaces but also changed my perspective as a design student as well - the preciseness , the process needed and also the many iterations I did to achieve a good final outcome. Overall, I find that typography serves as a basic foundation to any artwork and the concepts I learnt will surely benefit me in the long run.
Observations :
I find myself paying more attention to the typography and font used in different street banners and post on social media. I would ponder if the composition could be better or is there anyway to improve the choice of typeface used - which rarely happened to me in the past.
Typography definitely helped to boost my observation skills as i am now able to practice judgement on different artworks. This module also taught me to learn and observe our work through every feedback session as it is a very important skill to be able to practice accurate judgement.
Findings :
Typography is much more than just the typeface and font but also the creation of every small details of them. Minor nuances and kerning can cause a huge difference in how a viewer sees the work and it is our task as a designer to ensure the best possible readability for the users. Learning the history of typography and the reason behind how they involves serve an important role in the typography we have today. Hence, it is vital for us to understand the evolution of typography.
Overall, I am satisfied with all the works i created in this module and I put in much effort into each of them to ensure that I applied the concepts correctly. The most meaningful thing is i felt that I am able to practice good judgement of my own work after a few feedback sessions from my lecturers as I tried to understand the logic behind each feedback and observed multiple times.
