Even after selecting a topic, I realized that the journey of reading and research was far from over. My topic, "Users' Preference on Different Mode Selection Across Different Applications," particularly focusing on designers and coders, required a continuous process of information gathering. I found myself diving into numerous related articles, studies, and analyses to expand my understanding and stay updated with the latest developments in the field.
Experience : This module has been incredibly engaging and educational, allowing me to create my own research article from start to finish with the invaluable guidance of my mentor, Ms. Anis. I thoroughly enjoyed the process, especially gathering data for Task 3 and breaking down and analyzing the primary data.
Collecting different insights from respondents was eye-opening. It challenged my preconceived notion that dark mode is universally preferred in all situations. Instead, the diverse responses revealed a much more nuanced set of preferences depending on context and user needs.
The experience of compiling these insights into a comprehensive document was not only enjoyable but also immensely rewarding. It was gratifying to see how the data could be transformed into meaningful conclusions and practical recommendations. This process has greatly enriched my understanding of user preferences and enhanced my skills in data analysis and research documentation.
Observations : I observed the crucial role of time management while working on this module, given its long-term documentation requirements. By allocating ample time to each task and adhering to a well-structured schedule, I was able to avoid the pitfalls of last-minute work and ensure a smooth and thorough documentation process.
Additionally, this module provided an excellent opportunity to enhance my communication and interpersonal skills. Approaching respondents to fill out my survey form allowed me to refine my ability to engage with people effectively. This experience not only helped in gathering valuable data but also in building confidence in my approach and interaction with others.
What Troubles I Faced & How Did I Overcome It ?
The biggest challenge I encountered was ensuring a sufficient number of respondents for my survey to avoid biased data. Initially, I reached out to my friends from the design school and the School of Computing at Taylor's University. However, I soon realized that this sample was not diverse enough to provide comprehensive insights.
To address this, I expanded my outreach to include friends in Singapore and former colleagues who work in the design or coding industry. This broader approach helped to diversify my respondent pool, resulting in more balanced and representative data for my research.
