REFLECTION
Experience :
Personally, I find this the most challenging module in Semester 2, as it demands significant thought and time to complete the projects. Despite its difficulty, it is also the most rewarding module because I can see my hard work reflected in the designs. I particularly enjoyed the "Type and Play" task, which involved extracting letters from a picture and refining them with a current font to create a new one. For Project 2, which involved creating key artwork, I never expected to develop a brand identity for myself, but the iterative design process was very enriching. The final project required meticulous planning and attention to detail to ensure font consistency. Overall, the projects were more demanding compared to Typography, which is why it's called Advanced Typography.
Observations :
Throughout this module, I observed a personal weakness in my design process: a tendency to be very indecisive when choosing ideas. This indecisiveness often results in spending extra time at the beginning, changing my design directions. I found myself constantly questioning and second-guessing my initial concepts, which led to delays in progressing with my projects. This experience highlighted the importance of having a clear vision and being confident in my design choices from the outset.
To address this issue, I started to implement a more structured approach to my brainstorming and ideation phases. I began by setting clear criteria for evaluating my ideas and sticking to them. This helped me narrow down my options more efficiently and commit to a direction sooner.
Findings :
Throughout this module, I found several ways to improve my design process. Implementing a more structured approach to brainstorming, with clear criteria for evaluating ideas, helped mitigate these effects and streamline my workflow. Seeking early feedback from peers and instructor provided valuable insights and increased my confidence in decision-making, while the iterative nature of tasks like "Type and Play" and developing key artwork underscored the importance of iteration in design. These experiences facilitated significant personal and professional growth, enhancing my typography skills, decisiveness, time management, and ability to integrate feedback, ultimately improving the quality of my designs and overall design process.
