INSTRUCTIONS
1. LECTURES
Week 3B Lecture Summary :
Mr Martin showed us how to photoshopped the character into Hearst Mansion
and how to make it look naturally photoshopped. There were 3 important steps
we need to complete which is to crop out the shazam character, add shadow to
it and reflection of him in the water.
Week 3B Lecture Slides on Hearst Mansion :
Week 4 Lecture Summary :
Mr Martin taught us how to recolor black and white images using an easy
method and a more advanced method (which can help in more complex pictures).
We learnt how to use blending modes like soft light and overlay. We also
utilised the object selection tool alot in this week as we had to use it to
create layer masks of different components.

2. PRACTICALS
Week 3 Practicals refer to
here
Week 4 :
We were shown a video on how to recolor black and white images by Mr Martin
and had to execute the same work in our practical classes.
3. PROJECT 1B -Digital Imaging Exercises
Part 1 - Hearst Mansion
In this exercise we were instructed to photoshop Shazam leaning against
the wall in Hearst mansion. Through this, we will need to apply the
skills of blending, color matching, quick selection tool and layer
masking.
I followed the tutorial and this is my take on Shazam in Hearst Mansion
:
Final outcome of Shazam in Hearst Mansion :
Winnie (Me) in Hearst Mansion :
I requested my friend to help me take a portrait photo of myself to use
for this exercise, we were suppose to follow the exact same steps we did
to photoshop Shazam into Hearst Mansion. I will walk through the steps I
took :

Removing background and color matching :
Firstly, I selected myself using object selection tool and slowly
traced my figure out, i used background eraser to cleanly edit out some
parts. Next i copied and paste myself into Hearst Mansion and did color
matching to match hearst mansion.
Next, to make myself blend in better, i added some noise to my picture
to match the quality. I used brush tool after that to give myself some
shadows and applied Gaussian blur on the shadows. The opacity was
adjusted to 69% to give it a softer and more natural touch.

Adding reflection of myself in the water :
Lastly, I created a duplicate layer of myself and adjusted the height
to -100 , I utilised the pen tool to cut out the parts i need and made a
mask layer out of it. I adjusted my reflection's brightness, contrast ,
saturation and hue to my reflection and also gaussian blur.

4. Project 1B Part 2 : Recoloring
Black & White Images
In this exercise, we are instructed to recolour black and white
images from the tutorial video Mr Martin showed us. This exercise
is divided into three parts, as they test on different skills in
photoshop.
Part 1 - Recoloring Male Black & White Image
For part 1 we will mainly be using brush tool and blending modes
and masking.
Following the video Mr Martin showed us, I tried to replicate his
steps but using my own colors and tested out the different
blending mode. I recorded down my design process below and the
final outcome
Recoloring the skin :
I used the brush tool and went over the face with a solid orange
color and applied soft blending mode to it

Recoloring the hair :
I used the brush tool and went over the hair with a solid pink and
applied soft blending mode

Recoloring the lips :
I used the brush tool and went over the lips with a dark pink and
applied soft blending mode
|

Recoloring the eyes :
I used the brush tool and went over the eyes with a dark blue and
applied overlay blending mode
|

Adding the background :
To achieve this, i added another layer and fill it with solid
color . Next, i press on control shift all other layers and
created a mask
To achieve this, i inverted the background with the mask and
changed yellow to purple and applied overlay blending mode

Part 2 : Recoloring Female Model Black & White Image
For part 2 , we will mainly be utilising the above tools in part 1
but also object selection tool and higher difficulty of all the
tools. We will follow a video Mr Martin showed us and complete
this part on our own. I attached my final outcome and the design
process below :

Part 3 : Recoloring Our Own Black & White Image
For part 3, we are supposed to pick an image from the google drive
Mr Martin provided us and among all pictures, he mentioned there
was one with a higher difficulty and I decided to challenge myself
and go for that.

5. FEEDBACK
Week 3 : Mr Martin commented that i can try increasing the opacity of the
shadows in both the shazam and myself in Hearst mansion to make the shadow
stand out a little more.
Week 4 : Mr Martin commented that the recolor designs were very well done
as i paid attention to many mini details.
6. REFLECTION
The classes were very interesting throughout the weeks and i find that i
became more familiar with the photoshop tools and able to use them well. I
especially enjoyed the recoloring tasks as it amazes me that photoshop has
the ability to change colors of items and costumes of people as long as we
have the right tools.
